At Montessori Academy, we use Google Workspace for Education to help students stay organized, work together, and get their work done from anywhere. Every student gets a school email account through Gmail that stays active until they graduate. For security reasons, students aren’t allowed to change their passwords. Through these accounts, students can use Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides for free. These tools are a lot like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and they’re easy to use for writing papers, creating spreadsheets, or building presentations. They also have apps that work on both iPhones and Androids, so students can get things done on their phones if they need to.
Everything students create is saved in Google Drive, which works like a cloud storage system. That means your files are saved automatically and can be accessed from any device with internet, so there’s no need to carry around flash drives or worry about losing work. Google Workspace makes it easy for students to work with classmates on shared documents and group projects, even if they’re not in the same place. Teachers can also leave comments directly on your work to help you improve and make changes quickly.
When COVID-19 forced schools to close, we were able to keep classes going online because we were already using Google Workspace. We held virtual lessons, shared assignments, and stayed connected using these tools. Now, even though we’re back in person, we still use them every day to make learning easier, more flexible, and more collaborative.
